It's Been a While

So I realize I have been out of touch, aside from the occasional little blurb here and there, within the past few months. A lot has happened.

Our friend taught Tommy how to fish a couple of weeks ago, and he caught his first that morning-a good sized pickerel:

He was so proud. He wasn't, however, terribly sure about touching the fish, at least until I did it to show him it would be okay. At times I laugh because I think one might assume he has only known city life. He thought the seaweed was gross and that the smooth dirt road on the way to the lake was bumpy. If only he were to grow up where I did! He loved fishing though and could have done it all day and then some. Thanks Paul!

We also made a decision to enroll Tommy in private school - at least for kindergarten. We put down our deposit and signed our lives away (actually we have been pretty excited) - just before finding out that we were... wait for it... expecting another little bundle of joy! I know, I should have made it its own post just for the announcement, but I prefer to be a bit more subtle. We are all very excited. Tommy said he wants a sister. He said either way, though, that he thinks we should name the baby Thomas. We explained that it might get a bit confusing that way, so he changed his answer to suggest that if it were a girl we could call her "Girl Thomas" so that it would be different. :) We have our own ideas...

In the meantime we've decided to stay in our apartment for at least one more year. It will be very tight, but we will make it work. Tommy has a new loft with a desk, dresser drawers, shelves, and an empty space underneath. It's designed to have a roll away bed fit underneath, but we haven't put that together just yet. Instead we've slid his toy box underneath and filled the shelves with games and toys as well. Hopefully we will have just enough room for a crib on the other wall. That's the plan, anyway!

I haven't been knitting or quilting-or doing much else lately, though I do have many ideas for the new baby. My motivation was shot for a while, but I feel it coming back now, slowly. We do plan to find out whether it is a boy or a girl at our 18 week ultrasound, if possible, and I imagine I will have a harder time holding back once that happens.

What else? Well, on a not so pleasant note, we went outside this morning to find that someone had rummaged through our cars while we were asleep. My glove box and center console were wide open, and there was stuff thrown on the seat. I don't think anything was taken, which is good because it would be pretty sad if the thief had taken Tommy's sunglasses, matchbox cars, and clean-wipes! He/she did take the change out of Brian's car but again left Tommy's other sunglasses and his Wiggles, Muppets, and Playhouse Disney CD's. :) Yeah, we don't keep anything valuable in our cars anyway, but it was still a bit upsetting. I don't know whether I should be glad we had our doors unlocked because they didn't break the windows, or whether I wish I had locked the doors because they might not have gone through our stuff if I had! Oh well. There isn't much to do about it now.

...As usual our summer is full of plans for more adventures, so I'll try not to make a habit of disappearing for weeks at a time any more! I will leave you with a somewhat blurry yet energy-filled photo of Tommy and his cousin, taken at my cousin's wedding a couple of weeks ago.

Goodnight!

Congratulations on your impending new arrival. That is such amazing news: I remember these moments like they happened yesterday...even though our youngest is about to turn 7 (God, where do the years go?)

May you always have such happies to share. This is why life is so incredibly rewarding, and why it is such a treasure.

Congratulations on your wonderful news!! This is my first time back on line after taking a break and being away a while, and the first of my 'must-read' blogs that I check out has the best news of all! I hope you're feeling good and doing well. Take care. I'll look forward to hearing how you're doing. :)
